A native of the Connecticut shoreline, Nancy Pinney currently resides in Old Lyme. She was formally trained at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts - with a concentration on the figure, portrait and still life. In 1987, after concluding her academic studies, she opened a custom frame shop which specialized in gilding and frame restoration. Nancy is an artist member of the Lyme Art Association and the Salmagundi Club in New York, has exhibited in group shows in the U.S., Ireland and England, and currently works with the Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme.

In 2001, Nancy was awarded the first 'Distinguished Alumna' medal from the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in celebration of its 25th anniversary. In October 2003, she was granted a residency at The Cill Rialaig Project in South Kerry, Ireland. The group of artists that met during the residency have exhibited in several exhibitions entitled "On Common Ground" - at the Olive Stack Gallery in Listowel, Co. Kerry, The Narrow Space Gallery in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, and the Essex Art Association in Connecticut.

“The subject of my work had changed direction after leaving art school. Being trained in the studio, I gravitated to painting outdoors during a year of traveling the western states. Coming back to coastal New England gave me a new appreciation for my home as an artist, and have been painting landscapes of the lower Connecticut River Valley ever since.

Years later I had traveled to Ireland, where I found a wonderful combination of light and atmosphere in such a beautiful countryside, that I now have made it a priority to return to paint there every year. I'm interested in preserving these places that I am reluctant to leave - by creating a recognizable image that draws the viewer into the scene."
